Wow, what a year it has been! Earthquakes and weather disruptions again remind us of the power of Mother Nature! This time it has been a polar passage directly channelled up from Antartica, covering much of the country in glorious snow! It may leave us with many beautiful photos, but the havoc it has delivered is most unwelcome indeed. Following on from the snow is the very real concern of frosts which will further complicate the thaw process. Once school is able to open extreme care will need to be taken by students, staff, parents and visitors as we negotiate slippery streets, paths and accessways. Please everyone, keep warm, take care and look after yourself.
Cheers

<![CDATA[Post Quake]]>Wed, 22 Jun 2011 18:56:48 +1300http://www.northnewbrighton.school.nz/2/post/2011/06/first-post.htmlNorth New Brighton School is safe and sound and open for education.

We are making the best of the Earthquake situation, and although we have had to make some changes, we are fully operational. Staff have worked extremely hard to ensure students are back into full learning and daily routines. These are, of course, necessary to give children a sense of routine and normality.
The senior children have started Hagley sport on a Friday, competing against other schools in Rugby, Soccer and Netball.

Recently Auckland Museum visited our school to interview some of our students as part of their Museum's ‘Aqua’ display around our planet’s most precious commodity, water. Our students spoke about their Quake experiences, particularly around water, or the lack of it, when the sewage and water in our area was unusable.

Our New Entrant class is continuing to grow, even post-quake, and we will be reclaiming the temporary staffroom back as a growth classroom from next term. This is, of course, great news.

Regular updates will be posted on our school website, keeping you informed of North New Brighton School comings & goings.
